First Draft of the Irondale on the Move Comprehensive Plan is Released!

The Irondale on the Move Comprehensive Plan is the City of Irondale’s first Comprehensive Plan, intended to bring Irondale into a bold new era, one of optimism and confidence with a clear direction forward. This Comprehensive Plan is based on the residents’ vision of how they want their city to grow in the future— it is a long-term vision – and is intended to guide future development and to address the broad range of needs for the City.

The Project Team is now releasing the first draft of the Comprehensive Plan, and is seeking feedback from the public on the vision, goals and recommended actions contained in the working draft of the plan. Topics covered in the Irondale on the Move Comprehensive Plan include the following: future land use, community renewal, livability, green systems, public services and infrastructure, economic development, transportation, recommendations for Downtown Irondale and the US 78 / Crestwood Boulevard Corridor, and implementation strategies.

Get Involved! Review and Comment on the Draft Irondale on the Move Comprehensive Plan

  • Review the Executive Summary (attached) and working draft of the Comprehensive Plan on the IOM website at www.irondaleonthemove.com and provide comments.
  • Attend the public meeting at 6pm on Thursday, February 11 at Shades Valley High School Cafeteria, which is located at 6100 Old Leeds Road, Irondale AL 35210.

Meeting format: The meeting will begin with a presentation of the highlights of the draft plan. The Project Team will have stations set up around the room, based on the elements of the plan, to allow for one-on-one discussions and to answer questions directly with the public.

Moving Forward toward Plan Adoption

Following the February 9 public meeting, the Irondale on the Move Project Team will review the input received on the draft goals and actions and begin developing the final draft of the plan.  Prior to adoption, there will be further opportunities for input at public hearings before the Planning and Zoning Commission (tentatively set for February 25) and City Council (tentatively set for March 1).
