For the first time since 2012, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC)  Softball Tournament Championship tournament will be held at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale, Alabama, on May 11-14, 2016.  “The City of Irondale is honored to again host this outstanding event.  This tournament will bring numerous visitors to Irondale and will showcase the best our city has to offer,” according to Irondale City Councilor, John London.

The SWAC is comprised of the following Division-1 schools: Alabama State University, Alabama A&M University, Jackson State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Alcorn State University, Grambling State University, Southern University, University Arkansas – Pine Bluff, Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University.  The top four finishers from the eastern and western divisions qualify for the SWAC tournament. The team with the highest won-lost percentage during conference play receives the number one seed.

Last year, Texas Southern University successfully defended its championship, downing Alabama State in the finals.

The Shea Brothers Softball Complex has two state of the art fields with 100% FieldTurf surfaces and 200-foot fences. Fields drain up 18-inches of rain per hour.  There’s plenty of parking, handicap accessible bathrooms and concessions.  Please plan to attend this awesome event and come show how Irondale is indeed On The Move !!!
