Last week,Darryl Washington (Irondale CDA – Chairman) was a guest of Janet Hall on Birmingham’s Fox 6 WBRC, where he discussed our city’s comprehensive plan project,Irondale on the Move!
Darryl Washington serves as Program Director of Irondale On The Move the official name of Irondale’s new community based comprehensive plan. The plan will be designed and implemented thanks to a collaborative partnership formed by The City of Irondale, Irondale Commercial Development Authority and The Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce. This newly formed team will consult with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham to ensure a quality plan will not only be developed but fully implemented.
Washington, discussed the importance of developing a blueprint to assist current and future city leaders with a community approved comprehensive plan for Irondale’s future. The plan is entering it’s second phase (existing use and market analysis) and several community events are planned for the next few months, including:
- A series of interactive community symposiums to address key topics. These include; Improving City Services, Maintaining Great Schools, Creating Vibrant Economic Development, Promoting Arts and Entertainment In Irondale, Utilizing and Sustaining Irondale’s Vast Natural Resources, Preserving Irondale’s History, Enhancing Recreation, Tourism and Family Activities and Transforming Irondale’s Neighborhoods.
- Town Hall Meetings – Provide community stakeholders with a status of major milestones related to the comprehensive plan.
- Partnering on several community events including; Movies in the Park, Pop -Up Events, Community-based festivals and business/special interest networking activities.
