The newly constructed Grants Mill Road Canoe Launch at the Cahaba River Landing officially opened yesterday during a special ribbon cutting ceremony. Tommy Joe Alexander, Mayor of Irondale, did the honors live on WBRC FOX 6’s -Good Day Alabama Morning Show. The canoe launch and key improvements to the existing walking trails, will enhance public access to the Cahaba River in Irondale.
This project was made possible as a result of a massive partnership among several organizations. Key project collaborators include; the Cahaba River Society, Cahaba Riverkeeper, City of Irondale, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Freshwater Land Trust, Jefferson County Health Department, Irondale On The Move and The Nature Conservancy in Alabama.
According to Irondale On the Move- Director, Darryl Washington, ” Collaborative projects such as this one play a crucial role in Irondale’s future economic and community development. We must continue to look for ways to promote and enhance access to our many natural resources like the Cahaba River. “
