Councilman Bobby Joe Wilson was born in Birmingham, Al and graduated from Banks High School in 1986. He received his Associates in Applied Science from Lawson State Community College, and went on to receive his Bachelors of Science (Business Management) from Faulkner University in Montgomery. He is employed with Alabama Power Company as a supervisor in the Customer Service Center. He and his wife, Manessa, are the parents of two daughters, Jasmine and Jalen.
Bobby Joe was first appointed to the Irondale City Council in 2003, and then was elected into office, running unopposed, in 2004. In 2008, the city of Irondale conducted a redistricting process, Bobby Joe then lost his seat. In 2012, Bobby Joe ran and regained the council seat for his district, and afterwards was elected council president by his peers.
Bobby Joe has been very instrumental in the revitalization and safety of the City of Irondale. There have been several new hires in the Public Safety department, and a new energy of efforts collaborated to revamp Grants Mill Station, and bring back to life the store fronts that had been vacant for some time. He has been a strong advocate in encouraging the city to upgrade the parks, bring in new businesses, and provide much needed jobs for citizens in the community.
As chairman of the Finance Committee, Councilman Wilson has been instrumental in leading the city into good financial standing. He, along with other members of the Parks Committee, is overseeing the process of building a new playground for Beacon Park, and will start on the next phase of revamping Ellard and other parks in the community. Another desire is to look for property to build a multi-use complex that would be used to host many different types of events for the Irondale community.
Councilman Wilson is the President of the Alabama Kidney Foundation Board of Managers, and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Kidney Foundation. He is a graduate of the 2008 Alabama Power Company Leadership Development program, and also served as a mentor (2011 / 2013) for the Alabama Power Supplier Diversity Mentoring Program. He was voted Chamber Member of the Year (2008) by the Center Point Chamber of Commerce for his outstanding service and support. He will serve as a 2014 participant in the upcoming annual “100 Mentors in 100 days” to represent Alabama Power Company.
Councilman Wilson was awarded the professional designation of Certified Municipal Official (CMO) by the Alabama League of Municipalities in 2013.
He is a member of the First Baptist Church of F airfield where is serves on the Young Adult Usher Board.
He is an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
